Who Fact Sheet
WHO FACT SHEET
A Cultural Presentation of the United States of America, a co-operative grant program of the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs Department of the United States of America and The University Film and Video Association.
I. WHAT:
The American Documentary Showcase brings award-winning contemporary American documentaries to audiences around the world to offer a view of American society and culture as seen by independent documentary filmmakers. The Showcase also demonstrated the value of documentaries in fostering understanding and cooperation.
II. WHO:
- Sixty American documentary filmmakers. Five Oscar® nominated films, Emmy® winners, award winning films from Sundance, Tribeca and Silverdocs film festivals and many others.
- Four Fulbright Scholars.
- Every delegate donated their time, expertise and their films. All delegates reported that the trips were moving, educational, and in some cases truly life-changing.
III. WHERE:
Of the almost 50 requests for the Showcase in 2010/2011, over one half are from countries that hosted the program in 2009. This indicates that the posts found the program to be valuable and very much worth the planning and expense that such a complex project entails.
