- American Documentary Showcase was launched in 2008 by a co-operative grant program of the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs Department of State of the United States of America and The University Film and Video Association
- American Documentary Showcase brings award-winning contemporary American documentaries to audiences around the world to offer a view of American society and culture as seen by independent documentary filmmakers. The Showcase also demonstrated the value of documentaries in fostering understanding and cooperation.
- A selection committee reviewed over 300 films and selected a total of 55 that best represent the goals of the Showcase: to show specific aspects of American life.
- Sixty American documentary filmmakers. Five Oscar nominated films, Emmy winners, award winning films from Sundance, Tribeca and Silverdocs film festivals and many others.
- Three of the filmmakers are Fulbright Scholars.
- Every delegate donated their time, expertise and their films. All delegates reported that the trips were moving, educational, and in some cases truly life-changing.
- International delegations activities include public screenings, master classes, workshops, media appearances and collaborations with local filmmakers.
- AMDOCS filmmakers have toured Armenia, Belarus, Burma, and Colombia Czech Republic, Ecuador, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan Kazakhstan, Kenya, KyrgyzRepublic, Lithuania, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Vietnam
- The 2009 films remain available and several posts did extensive follow-up screenings after the delegations departed. The Grant one films remain very much in demand overseas.
- Thirteen Grant one films are now sub-titled in Spanish, making them accessible to thousands of Spanish speakers who could not otherwise access them.
