U.S. Department of State Announces 2011 Lineup for American Documentary Showcase

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announced today the lineup for the third season of the American Documentary Showcase, which will send 18 American documentary films to more than 20 countries, to cultivate greater understanding among people around the world. The 2011 films are:

Imaginary Circumstances
It's About You: John Mellencamp
Kids with Cameras
Latin Music USA: The Chicano Wave
The Lottery
Louder than a Bomb
Make Believe
The Most Dangerous Man in America:
Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers

The New Frontier:
Sustainable Ranching in the American West

Niger ’66: A Peace Corps Diary
No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson
One Lucky Elephant

Animated Shorts: Bottle, Kiwi, Singles, Work, & Something Left, Something Taken

It's About You: A Film by Kurt and Ian Markus

These films explore diverse topics including civil rights, the treatment of military veterans, environmentalism, and freedom of the press. The documentary filmmakers, as well as film experts, will fan out across the globe, beginning in February, to highlight the selected films to international audiences and conduct public screenings, master classes, and workshops. In addition, these American filmmakers will work with their foreign counterparts on outreach programs on filmmaking and new media and look for new areas for collaboration with local filmmakers. The American Documentary Showcase is implemented through an open grant process by the University Film and Video Association.
