In the Spotlight today is the 15th BendFilm Festival, a destination festival in the picturesque recreational haven of Bend, Oregon -- the "outdoor playground of the West," which lays claim to the highest number of breweries per capita in the US. Named byMovieMaker Magazineas one of the “50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee,” BendFilm is known for showering its guests in unbeatable hospitality and offering generous cash prizes including $5,000 USD for the coveted Best in Show award. A true discovery festival, BendFilm's “First Features” program screens the feature debut of an established filmmaker (like indie icon John Sayles, who kicked off the program in 2016), who also leads a panel of BendFilm filmmakers presenting their own first features at the Festival.

BendFilm has attracted a stellar panel of industry guests over the past decade — including Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gus Van Sant, John Waters,IndieWireeditor-in-chief Dana Harris, Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton, Magnolia's Neal Block, Sundance Film Festival shorts programmer Landon Zakhiem, and celebrated film critic Lisa Schwarzbaum. Actor/producer Kristin Slaysman, a 2016 Documentary Juror shares, “It was such an honor to be a part of a festival that clearly loves films and filmmakers and to be welcomed into such a warm and fun community... It's a special place and a special group of people! (Plus great beer! Win win!)”

In addition, BendFilm is proud to have a hosting committee at the ready to house filmmakers and provide transportation at no expense during their stay. Feature filmmakers also get travel stipends, allowing most to travel to Bend entirely on the festival’s dime. BendFilm loves to have filmmakers come talk about their work with eager audiences, and the festival will do whatever possible to reduce financial stress and maximize fun.
