Mammoth Lakes Film Festival Call for Entries

In the Spotlight today is the 4th Annual Mammoth Lakes Film Festival(MLFF), named byMovieMaker Magazineas one of the "Top 50 Festival's Worth the Entry Fee" two years in a row. The Festival has already made a big splash on the circuit with their commitment to put filmmakers first. The Festival has six open categories spanning features, documentaries, animation, and episodic/web series.

Mammoth Lakes Film Festival focuses on personal, innovative, and imaginative films by writers and directors with a unique style and point of view. In 2017 MLFF screened over 70 films with over 90 filmmakers in attendance, and $60,000 USD in cash and prizes awarded. Filmmakers invited to screen at MLFF will receive travel stipends, housing, and festival passes to enjoy the full event during their stay.

The Festival takes place in one of California's most beautiful mountain resort towns, Mammoth Lakes - a perfect backdrop for independent film and a premier tourist destination in its own right high in the eastern Sierra. Many industry professionals routinely visit and have vacation homes in Mammoth Lakes as it's an easy drive and quick flight from Los Angeles. Jury members have included Andrew Lazar (Producer ofAmerican Sniper), Allison Amon (Producer ofThe Queen of Versailles), and John Feidler (Producer ofSerial MomandPecker).

The mission of the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival, a DBA 501(c)3 of the Mammoth Lakes Foundation, is to provide a competitive independent film festival dedicated to the art of film making as it showcases the human story and inspires audiences.

Each year the Sierra Spirit Award is presented to a filmmaker who has shown a strong commitment to independent filmmaking over the course of their career, bucking typical Hollywood career paths and finding a way to make iconic, personal films. The last two year's recipients have beenGremlinsandInnerspacedirector Joe Dante and the Godfather of indie film John Sayles. The Sierra Spirit Award is an opportunity for veteran filmmakers to give back, sharing their unique experience with audiences and up-and-coming filmmakers at the festival.
