Nantucket, Massachusetts - USA
June 20 to 25, 2018

In the Spotlight today is the 23rd Annual Nantucket Film Festival & Screenplay Competition(NFF), dedicated to the notion that the screenwriter's contribution is at the core of filmmaking. For six days in June, screenwriting and independent storytelling are celebrated with over 100 films screened (features and shorts) and through Signature Programs, making the NFF one of the most unique destination film festivals in the world. This summer getaway attracts VIP talents that are an integral part of festival programming meeting with filmmakers and cinema fans.

NFF fosters emerging screenwriters through Showtime's Tony Cox Screenplay Competition which provides cash awards ranging from $1,000 USD to $5,000 and one-on-one consultation with a Showtime executive. Winning screenwriters are also invited to the Mentor Brunch with a leading industry screenwriter. Recent Mentors Brunch advisors are Davey Holmes, George Pelecanos, Oliver Stone, Robert Towne, David O. Russell, Mike Cahill, Barry Levinson, Paul Haggis, and Nancy Meyers. Additionally, one outstanding female director will have the opportunity to take home the Adrienne Shelly Foundation Excellence in Filmmaking Award which boasts a $5,000 cash prize.

The Festival's feature film program consists of approximately 40 to 50 features and includes fiction and nonfiction. Recent NFF alums include The Big Sick, An Inconvenient Sequel, Wind River, Patti Cake$, Fun Mom Dinner, and many more. In 2016 NFF's short program expanded to include approximately 40 films. Nearly all of NFF's programmed short films are submitted through Withoutabox. Attending filmmakers have access to NFF's programming, including special Signature Programs, with short fiction filmmakers invited to participate in our annual private Mentor Brunch with a prominent screenwriter.
