In the Spotlight today is the 42nd AnnualHong Kong International Film Festival(HKIFF42), lauded as one of Asia's most reputable platforms for filmmakers, film professionals and filmgoers that flock to Hong Kong year after year to experience and discover new and innovative films. As the oldest and longest established international film festival in Asia, HKIFF serves as a platform for international film exchange, to promote better understanding between global cultures, and to discover new talents from around the world.

Filmmakers that screen at HKIFF consistently gain significant global exposure. Screening over 250 titles from more than 55 countries in over 11 of Hong Kong's major cultural venues over two weeks, the Festival is Hong Kong's largest celebration of film.

Committed to discovering new talent, the Festival premieres the breadth of Chinese cinema and showcases Asian talents. Festival-goers enjoy world-class films, attend seminars hosted by leading filmmakers from around the world, visit film exhibitions, participate in receptions and parties, and more. The Festival draws extensive media coverage from over 300 local and international members of the press and continues to grow in importance as one of the premier platforms to launch films in Asia. Section Programmes include Young Cinema Competition, Documentary Competition, Short Film Competition, Global Vision, Indie Power, Reality Bites (documentaries), World Animation, and Poetry in Motion (experimental).

Hong Kong International Film Festival strives to foster film culture with a program that recognizes the achievements of the past and looks forward to future, provide an opportunity for Hong Kong residents to appreciate films of good artistic merit from all over the world, and promote and highlight the achievements of the cinematic scene in Hong Kong as well as deepen the appreciation of Hong Kong's cinema history.

Premiere films find great acclaim at the Festival as each screening hosts a red carpet event for press and theaters are packed with cinema fans. World Premiere ofLove Off the Cuffdirected by PANG Ho-cheung kicked off HKIFF41 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre, stars Miriam YEUNG, Shawn YUE and other casts including Paul CHUN, Susan SHAW Yam-yam, Derek TSANG, Isabel CHAN, June LAM Siu-ha, Matt CHOW, Jolane KOO, Dada CHAN, Tarah CHAN, and Stephanie AU Hoi-shun attended the opening ceremony.77 Heartbreaks, directed by Herman YAU, had its premiere at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre this year, with a star-studded cast including Charlene CHOI, Michelle WAI, Gillian CHUNG and J. Arie all in attendance.The Sleep Curse, directed by renowned local director Herman YAU, also premiered at HKIFF41 with acclaimed actors Acclaimed actors Anthony WONG, Michelle WAI and Bryant MAK in attendance.
