Nashville Film Festival Call for Entries

In the Spotlight today is the 49th Annual Nashville Film Festival(NashFilm), an Academy-qualifying event that has a long-standing reputation for championing some of the best films and filmmakers of today and tomorrow. NashFilm's film, episodic, VR & 360 film, and screenplay competitions offer more than $100,000 USD in cash and prizes. More than 40,000 cinema and music fans and industry leaders come to Nashville to take part in one of North America's coveted festival stops. It's no wonder NashFilm is named byMovieMaker Magazineas one of "20 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" and the International Screenwriters Association named NashFilm as one of the "Top 20 Screenplay Competitions in the World."

Presenting the best films by veteran masters, up-and-coming and first-time filmmakers, NashFilm has hosted numerous films that have won the highest honors in the film world, from major festival prizewinners to Academy Award winners to indie box office hits. Many directors that garnered attention at NashFilm early in their careers have gone on to build successful careers in filmmaking. Shawn Baker won one of his first feature film awards at NashFilm withTake Out. In 2017,The Florida Project, starring Willem Dafoe, premiered at Cannes to rave reviews and will soon be released by A24. Craig Brewer won his first professional award at NaFF in 2001 forThe Poor and Hungryand has gone on to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song with his film,Hustle and Flow. Shorts filmmakers who have gone on to wide acclaim include Brie Larson, Riz Ahmed, the Duplass Brothers, and Denis Villeneuve.

At NashFilm, films compete in traditional categories and in areas including music composition, music supervision and more, creating a festival that truly honors the eyes, ears, mind, and heart. Winners of NashFilm's Short Narrative, Animation, and Documentary categories are automatically eligible for Academy Awards consideration - a benefit that means this festival may just be the start of a life-changing adventure.
