TIFF Next Wave Film Festival Call for Entries

In the Spotlight is the 7th Annual TIFF Next Wave Film Festival, welcoming filmmakers of all career levels with feature films tailored to engage young audiences. This spectacular weekend offers free movie screenings for anyone under 25 years old, one amazing retrospective of teen film classics, amazing guests, industry workshops and panels, the 24-Hour Film Challenge, Battle of the Scores, and more. All unfolding in the heart of Toronto's Entertainment District and hosted by one of the most prestigious film festivals on the circuit, Toronto International Film Festival.

Next Wave is an event designed for young audiences and more importantly is programmed by young adults. The TIFF Next Wave Film Festival is steered by the TIFF Next Wave Committee, an advisory committee made up of 12 youth dedicated to bringing quality film programming to youth across Toronto. Hailing from specialized arts institutions, public schools and private schools all over the Toronto area, the Committee members' tastes, opinions and critical voices are as diverse as they are strong. Some are aspiring filmmakers, writers and actors; some are interested in learning the business of film and festivals; some like planning cultural events; and some just love movies.

Three categories are now open for submissions: Live Action Feature, Animated Feature, and Documentary Features. All films submitted must have a run time of 41-minutes or greater.

The principle objective of the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival is to present the best of contemporary and classic film for youth between the ages of 14 and 25. Its mandate is to feature the most outstanding films for youth produced in every part of the world.

In addition to an impressive line-up of films from around the world, TIFF Next Wave also offers young film-makers and creatives of all kinds so many opportunities to immerse themselves at TIFF. This includes the epic Battle of the Scores Opening Night Party, a 24hr film challenge and the amazing Young Creators Co-Lab- a fast-pace industry incubator for young film-makers with hands on workshops to enhance skills and networking opportunities with experiences industry professionals, including such past guests as Pat Mills (Guidance), Micael Preysler (Lily & Kat), Slater Jewell-Kemker (Still), Spencer Maybee (Carmilla), and James Laxtion (Moonlight).

TIFF Next Wave is open to all filmmakers with a film that can be enjoyed by cinema fans ages 14 to 25. Live Action, Documentaries and Animation are now being considered - submit your best work today!
