In the Spotlight today is the 25th annualRaindance Film Festival, celebrating a milestone year as one of the leading circuit stops for independent filmmakers to be discovered and home to boundary-pushing projects. Raindance continually satisfies a public thirst for innovative and exciting storytelling. The Festival screens roughly 100 feature-length films and 150 shorts, the impressive showcase has helped make it one ofMovieMaker Magazine's"Top 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee." Recognized as the largest independent film festival in the United Kingdom, Raindance's exceptional history has earned the festival qualifying status for the Academy Awards, BAFTA, and British Independent Film Awards.

In previous years, Raindance has hosted the UK premieres of groundbreaking modern classicsWhat's Eating Gilbert Grape,The Blair Witch Project,Dead Man's Shoes,Memento,Humpday,Love Exposure,Ghost World,Capturing the Friedmans,Down Terrace,I Origins, andOld Boy. The festival is also flooded with epic icons of film, music, and television. Christopher Nolan, Shane Meadows, Ken Loach, Marky Ramone, Iggy Pop, Anton Corbijn, Quentin Tarantino, Faye Dunaway, Lou Reed, and other legends have all been in attendance to celebrate filmmaking at its cutting edge. Time and again, film executives and buyers, journalists, film fans, and filmmakers return to Raindance in search of "the next big thing."

Each participating filmmaker will receive a festival pass, an industry pass, and invitations to daily networking events, and selected filmmakers will receive travel accommodations. Directors and producers are invited to participate in a three "industry days" to help empower filmmakers with the knowledge they need to advance their career.

The Raindance Film Festival, running in central London since 1993, aims to show the very best in new independent cinema from the UK and around the world, accepting films of all lengths and genres.

Raindance unfolds in London's West End - famous for its energy, curiosity, and engagement with the arts and entertainment. The festival will be held at the Vue Cinema Piccadilly Circus, and evening galas and industry events will percolate throughout Soho, Piccadilly Circus, and Leicester Square. All told, Raindance covers the gamut of many of London's best sights, sounds, and eateries. It's an adventure many festival guests can't wait to revisit. The Festival even offers film training courses, including a post-graduate film degree, for cinema scholars who don't want to leave their London experience behind.
