In the Spotlight today is the 25th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF), a prestigious, Academy-qualifying showcase that attracts a passionate and influential audience that continues to grow each year. Leading press outlets flock to HIFF for the opportunity to discover fresh new voices and films that offer enlightening global perspectives.
Variety recently referred to HIFF as "Telluride East," citing it as "one of America's most glamorous displays of the best in cutting-edge cinema." Films in the 2016 edition received a record 45 Academy Award nominations, including four of the eight Best Picture nominations. HIFF has also screened the eventual Best Picture Oscar winners seven years in a row. Additionally, the Festival screened four of the Oscar nominated short films, including the eventual Short Documentary winner. The Festival's Oscar worthy programming leads to an exceptional guest list of both lauded established talent and newly discovered filmmakers. HIFF's 2016 attendees included their Co-Chairman Alec Baldwin, Edward Norton, Holly Hunter, Mahershala Ali, Elle Fanning, Riz Ahmed, and many others. Other recent attendees include Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Brie Larson, Todd Haynes, Alicia Vikander, Tom McCarthy, Charlie Kauffman, Julianne Moore, Bill Murray, and Richard Gere.
As part of the festival's commitment to independent voices, the Narrative Feature Jury Prize winner will receive up to $125,000 USD in goods and services and the Documentary Feature Jury Prize winner will receive up to $85,000 USD in goods and services to help the production of their next feature film. Cash prizes ranging from $500 to $3,000 are also available in each competition category as well as a number of other categories. Narrative and Documentary Short Film Jury Prize winners will qualify for Academy Award consideration. Additionally, films have the opportunity to be picked up for distribution, recent examples of films who made their world premiere at HIFF include Supergirl (FilmRise); Score (Gravitas Ventures); Harry Benson: Shoot First (Magnolia Pictures); The C Word (Abramorama); and The Preppie Connection (IFC).

HIFF provides filmmakers with an all-encompassing fest experience - invited filmmakers receive complimentary passes with access to festival screenings, industry mixers, panels, the opening night party, the filmmaker party, among other events throughout the five day extravaganza. Most filmmakers in competition also receive complimentary travel and accommodations in East Hampton.
