The 5th AnnualThe March on Washington Film Festival (MOWFF), offers an inspiring showcase of films and panels that highlight history's trailblazers and empower cinema fans of all backgrounds to take action for civil rights and liberties. The festival is seeking short content from student and emerging directors with films that aim to catalyze change and answers the question, "What's Your Civil Right?" Answers can vary across an array of topics, including: social justice, human rights, environmental, immigration, criminal justice, health, gender issues, as well as civil rights.
The 2016 festival expanded to include a Student and Emerging Shorts contest for content focusing on civil rights and social justice issues, and held a screening at the White House for finalists. Notable guests and participants include: Michele Norris, Nikki Giovanni, Rev. C.T. Vivian, Elizabeth Alexander, Carmen de Lavallade, Jeff Lieberman, Sam Pollard, Toshi Reagon, Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, Sam Waymon, Bill Rhoden, DeRay Mckesson and Louis Gossett, Jr.
Finalists in each competition will be screened by a prestigious jury, receive VIP passes, and be invited to attend the Filmmakers Brunch. Four Jury Awards of $1,500 USD cash are available for Best Narrative and Documentary Short, by a student and emerging artist. Each Jury Award-winning filmmaker will be awarded a $500 travel stipend to attend the festival in Washington D.C. Qualify your film today!
