FILM FESTIVAL & ASIA
Tokyo - Japan
June 1 to June 25, 2017
In the Spotlight today is the 19th Annual Short Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), an Academy-qualifying showcase held in one of the most dynamic regions that brings together filmmakers, a diverse cross section of cinema fans and industry players. Hosted at stellar venues in Tokyo and Yokohama, SSFF & ASIA promotes extraordinary shorts to Japan and to the world, securing both national and international tours for some of the festival's most lauded works.
As one of the largest short film festivals in Asia, SSFF & ASIA has earned Academy accreditation, providing the winner of Short Shorts' Grand Prix with eligibility for an Academy Award nomination. Cash prizes valued up to $6,400 USD are available in a multitude of competition categories. In collaboration with Avex Digital Inc. in Japan, SSFF & ASIA is proud to announce the second edition of International Short Film Pitch Competition, which will fund a production with a budget of up to 100 million JPY (approx. USD 800,000). The aim of this competition is to exceed international borders in supporting the realization of a genuinely interesting pitch that truly deserves to be made into a film by offering up to 100 million JPY in production costs.
SSFF & ASIA this year also announced the Cinematic Tokyo Competition; calling for short films that take "Tokyo" as their subject, and which show the many attractions that Tokyo has to offer. The competition winner will receive 1,000,000 JPY ($9,300 USD). The festival is not only looking for films that take place in Tokyo, but also for films that depict memories of Tokyo, impressions of Tokyo, or even shops in overseas locations that offer an experience of "Tokyo". Other special categories include CG Animation and Save the Earth Competitions.
