AMERICAN DOCUMENTARY
FILM FESTIVAL AND FILM FUND
Palm Springs, California - USA
March 29 to April 3, 2017

In the Spotlight today is the 6th Annual American Documentary Film Festival & Film Fund (AmDocs), one of the US's largest and most influential celebrations comprised exclusively of international documentary filmmaking. Nestled in the desert resort community of Palm Springs, just a few hours outside of Los Angeles, AmDocs regularly draws an exciting array of industry insiders and eager cineastes ready to champion the best new Feature, Short and Animated Short Documentaries.

In addition to showcasing an impressive screening lineup, AmDocs also seeks the best in-progress documentary films. AmDocs will distribute upwards of $50,000 USD in cash and in-kind service awards to docs still in the making. One such example of an AmDocs Film Fund recipient, The Trials of Muhammad Ali went on to be short-listed for the Oscars. Filmmaker, Zachary Kerschberg exudes, "AmDocs is already the premiere doc festival on the west coast! The strength in programming, attention to filmmakers, and outreach to the community make it a rare and wonderful event in the film world. To premiere our first feature doc, Beauty Factory , was a privilege. To make one lasting relationship at a festival makes it worth it; at AmDocs I made nearly a dozen, with a new collaboration already on the horizon. And we are now negotiating the worldwide VOD release of Beauty Factory."

2016 was a spectacular year for AmDocs with more than 150 feature-length and short-form documentaries, including 50 world premieres. The Festival kicked off with the Opening Night screening of Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru from director Joe Berlinger which included a passionate Q&A featuring Tony Robbins himself. Berlinger was awarded with the Seeing The Bigger Picture Award as well as screening a retrospective of some of his works. Previous awardees include Oliver Stone, Harvey Weinstein, Peter Coyote and Peter Bogdanovich. Panelists included Haskell Wexler, Fred Goodich, Lydia Smith, Roberta Munroe and more.
