Manchester, England - United Kingdom
March 2 to 5, 2017
In the Spotlight today is the 3rd Annual Manchester International Film Festival (MANIFF), programmed entirely from open submissions which delivers a richly diverse showcase of films to an inclusive and welcoming audience of industry professionals, national and international film related media and enthusiasts of independent world cinema. Acquisitions from top independent distributors including Soda Pictures and representation from the BBC, ITV, and numerous national radio and press including The Guardian, The Independent and the Daily Express provided filmmakers the exposure and next steps to succeed beyond the festival.
MANIFF is an emerging festival and has already earned rave reviews from filmmakers eager to come back with their next film. "Thanks to the Manchester Film Festival for taking a chance on our film, just to have us here and for us to be involved. We've had such a good time meeting all the other filmmakers and getting to watch and be inspired by their films," Jonny Moore, Director, Made in Taiwan. Last year the Festival presented the world premiere of Psychoanlysis from director James Raue which went on to win numerous Best in Fest awards around the world. James shares his gratitude for the film's launch, "Thanks to the Manchester Film Festival for giving a voice to something that would not really be seen anywhere else."
Alumni have already experienced success after screening at MANIFF. Films that went on to pick up distribution include American Native, cinema release followed by a PBS release; Not My Day, released by Sony Pictures; and Love is Now, released by Universal. Transparency is a guiding principle at MANIFF, the festival exclusively screens films that have gone through the submission process giving filmmakers of all career levels, regardless of notoriety, a chance for their work to be discovered.
