Nashville, Tennessee - USA
April 20 to 29, 2017
In the Spotlight today is the 48th Annual Nashville Film Festival (NaFF), a three-category Academy-qualifying celebration furthering a long-standing reputation for championing some of the best films and filmmakers of today and tomorrow. NaFF's film, web series and screenplay competitions offer more than $150,000 USD in cash and prizes. The festival each year hosts tens of thousands of cinema and music fans as part of the more than 300 events. It's no wonder NaFF is named by MovieMaker Magazine as one of "20 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" and the International Screenwriters Association named NaFF as one of the "Top 20 Screenplay Competitions in the World."
In 2016 NaFF screened 172 Short Films and 99 Feature Films of which 62 we in competition and 48 were premiere screenings. Nine first-time feature film directors comprised the New Directors Competition in 2016 representing USA, Italy, France, and Japan; the Music Films/Music City Competition introduced great films including Colin Hay - Waiting for My Real Life (Nate Gowtham, Aaron Faulls), A Song For You: The Austin City Limits Story (Keith Maitland), and A Fat Wreck (Shaun Colón); and NaFF was proud to help shine a light on short films with a robust selection of awards presented across multiple categories: Narrative, Documentary, Animated, Experimental, Student, Young Filmmaker, Web Series, and Tennessee First.
At NaFF, films compete in traditional categories and in areas including music composition, music supervision and more, creating a festival that truly honors the eyes, ears, mind, and heart. Winners of NaFF's Short Narrative, Animation, and Documentary categories are automatically eligible for Academy Awards consideration - a benefit that means this festival may just be the start of a life-changing adventure. Four short films from NaFF's 2015 selection Bear Story, World of Tomorrow, Boy and the World, and Day One all went on to be nominated for Academy Awards in 2016.
