Tenure-track appointment to the Christian Nielsen Endowed Professorship in Film Studies
Eckerd College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment to the Christian Nielsen Endowed Professorship in Film Studies, to begin September 2012, likely at the Assistant Professor level, but applications from more senior candidates will be considered. PhD in Film Studies or a related discipline is required at time of appointment. We seek a dynamic teacher and promising scholar to lead a new program in a strong liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses as well as more advanced courses in history and theory, and participate on senior thesis/project committees, while assuming leadership of an interdisciplinary program which draws on faculty in philosophy, art, religious studies, languages, history and literature. Teaching duties are seven courses per year on a 3-1-3 schedule. Specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate preparation for and insight into the unique opportunities and challenges of leading a program aimed at approaching film from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Some knowledge of film/video production would be useful, but no production teaching will be required.
Participation in an interdisciplinary, values-oriented general education program is required, including a regular rotation in the two-semester freshman program. Eckerd College, the only independent national liberal arts college in Florida, has a tradition of innovative education and teaching/mentoring excellence. Submit all application materials by Oct. 28, 2011 to www.eckerd.edu/hr/employment. Inquiries may be sent to Professor Nathan Andersen (nate.andersen@gmail.com). Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for the College. EOE. Applications from women/minorities encouraged. The Christian Nielsen Endowed Professorship in Film Studies was supported by a Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
