University of Baltimore – The School of Communications Design (SCD) invites applications for a tenure-track (open rank) faculty position in Integrated Arts (IA) beginning in August 2012 (contingent on final budgetary approval).
Integrated Arts is the newest of SCD’s programs. It integrates, in a unique way, courses in the traditional and applied fine arts and humanities with courses dealing with the civic and business aspects of the arts. Its mission is to prepare students to help the arts, artists and arts organizations succeed and prosper in the 21st century. The University is located in Baltimore’s Station North cultural arts district; among our neighbors are Everyman Theatre, The Lyric, The Baltimore Symphony, The Strand Theater, Single Carrot Theatre, Baltimore Print Studios, arts and film festivals, and numerous gallery spaces. The innovative new IA program uses the neighboring arts and cultural communities as its laboratory.
Responsibilities in this position include directing and further developing the university’s new B.A. program in Integrated Arts and advising majors in the program, as well as teaching courses in other SCD undergraduate programs and possibly in the graduate programs. Classroom and online teaching is involved. Successful candidate will also: Teach five-six courses per year Work with multiple constituencies to coordinate and integrate arts and arts administration at the University of Baltimore Network with area artists and arts organizations Supervise and coordinate internships Develop and revise curriculum Identify, recruit and supervise adjunct faculty
Candidates with a record of creative and/or scholarly activities appropriate to the rank of assistant or associate professor are especially encouraged to apply. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: A terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) in an area related to the Integrated Arts program as described; broad experience in the arts; expertise in one of the visual or performing arts; and higher education teaching experience.
Preferred: Administrative experience especially in arts administration and/or cultural arts history; experience working with curriculum; a demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies; 3-5 years of higher education involvement; evidence of deep trans-disciplinary appreciation for the business and civic roles of the arts in local and regional culture.
