Welcome to Boston!

UFVA2011 Conference at Emerson College in Boston

Emerson College
Emerson College, Boston

From the 2011 Conference Host

Greetings from Emerson College where preparations are underway for the 2011 conference. We are absolutely delighted that UFVA has chosen Boston for this year’s venue and sincerely feel this is a conference of which you will want to take part.

Whether you are returning to Emerson, or this will be your first visit to the college and the Boston/Cambridge area, we will be delighted to welcome you and will do everything to ensure your time at Emerson is exciting and rich.

Our conference has a special theme this year, The Future of Media Education, a timely topic of great importance to us all. As you think about submitting papers and panels, consider something theme appropriate, as special consideration will be given to these proposals.

Sessions will be scheduled from Emerson’s beautiful new Paramount Center with its Black Box Theater, Bright Family Screening Room and Paramount Mainstage, to the Di Bona studios and campus classrooms with HD, Blu-ray and 16mm projection. We are in the process of making terrific plans for the picnic, the closing dinner and other special events. Stay tuned for more information!

We may be biased, but we think Boston is one of the most stimulating cities in the East Coast, steeped in history and academic traditions. Consider spending a few extra days on either end of the conference to visit New England. Boston has much to offer with a gorgeous new wing at the Museum of Fine Arts, the stunning Institute of Contemporary Art, an aquarium, a science museum and an abundance of historic sites to visit, all a short ride away on public transportation. If you have a car, beaches and mountains are within easy reach.

Now for some practical information: conference registration will run from March 15 through June 1. Those registering after June 1 will be charged a late fee. The preliminary conference program will be posted on line May 15. This year you will again have the option to create a customized conference schedule, downloadable to tablets or phones for easy access.

Jean StawarzUpon your arrival in Boston, registration will be open from 4 PM – 10 PM on Tuesday, August 2nd and continue Wednesday, August 3rd from 8 AM – 5 PM and Thursday from 8 AM – 12 PM. Those wishing to pick up packets at other times will need to contact us to make other arrangements.
If there is anything we can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to email us at ufvaconference@emerson.edu. See you in August at the campus on the Commons!
